Assignment:
Clearly, diagnosis is a critical aspect of healthcare. However, the ultimate purpose of a diagnosis is the development and application of a series of treatments or protocols. Isolated recognition of a health issue does little to resolve it.
In this module’s Discussion, you applied the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory to diagnose potential problems with the civility of your organization. In this Assignment, you will continue to analyze the results and apply published research to the development of a proposed treatment for any issues uncovered by the assessment.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and examine the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, found on page 20 of Clark (2015).
Review the Work Environment Assessment Template.
Reflect on the output of your Discussion post regarding your evaluation of workplace civility and the feedback received from colleagues. (please see my discussion at the end of this paper)

Discussion
Workplace environment plays a critical role in affecting productivity and staff engagement. Clark (2015) indicates that unsafe and stressful healthcare workplace risks to reduce the employees’ loyalty to the organization, impact staff interaction, and most importantly, result in low-quality patient care. To assess the healthy level of a work environment, Clark (2015) developed a Healthy Workplace Inventory tool to measure the level of health in a work environment, using a scale of 20-100. It helps identify the strengths and weaknesses of a work environment. (Clark, 2015).
The assessment of the hospital I work in ranked at 83, which equals to a moderately healthy organization. The result reflects great teamwork and collaboration between staff in my hospital. There is a very heavy workload at our level I trauma hospital, without great teamwork and effective collaboration among staff, we would not be able to provide a safe and quality of care to patients. Other strengths of my hospital include the effective, open, and respectful communication among staff, staff and leaders, high level of trust, and opportunities for professional growth and development are the keys to create a healthy work environment at our hospital.
Along with the positive factors above, my organization has some room for improvement. The benefit of Clark’s assessment is that it showed two particular problem areas that need to be solved in my hospital, including uncompetitive salaries and heavy workload. Furthermore, the lack of fair compensation is what contributes to staff retention in my hospital and skillful workforce. Regarding the unreasonable workload, Marshall (2017) states that health care teams trend to suffer from regular restructuring and downsizing of personnel, which then result in staff shortages. Consequently, the employee may be challenged by heavy workload and overtime, which can create more issues: unsafe staff/patient ratio, the staff burn out, which can lead to lower performance, or quit the job. These issues will then intensify the problem of staff shortage even further.
