Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to:a. Explain the purpose of the ISO-OSI model and TCP/IP and the significanceto real-world networks such as LANS and the Internetb. Explain in detail the architecture of LANS, the IEEE 802 standards for stationaddresses and frame format, and the operation of LAN switches, andoutline shortcomings in LANS such as security and broadcastsc. Describe in detail the architecture of the Internet, the operation of routingtables, routers and the operation of dynamic routing protocols and explainthe purpose of layer 3 protocols and IP in particular, and the main fields inthe IP packet headerd. Describe in detail the features and protocol formats for presentation andApplication layers and outline the basic architecture of the World WideWeb and Internet email systemse. Demonstrate basic competency with network discovery tools, dig andpacket capture tools, construct, test and evaluate hypertext documents andclient-side Application protocols

Assessment Description:Seagull International is a growing business. They have about 50 employees working from 2 differentlocations. Seagull International is now going to move into their own office in Sydney. You have beennewly appointed as Network Administrator for this business. The management wants to setup thenew office for 18 Administrative Staffs and 20 Data Entry Operators. Office Staffs will be using thecomputer typically for accessing to the Internet, word processing, shared printers, accessingcentralized database and business data entry. Management also wishes to provide Wi-Fi connectivityin the reception area for day to day visitors. Their Sales Team consists of 12 people. Sales people needto be able to access the Corporate Network from remotely. When Sales Team comes to the office,they use Wi-Fi with their Laptops to access network.
